Roughcut Films

Roughcut Films is an independent film production studio based in Malta, built on the belief that cinema should be culturally rooted, emotionally resonant, and internationally relevant.

We produce films that carry a distinct sense of place while speaking to universal audiences. As producers, we develop and deliver original features that position Maltese storytelling within the wider European conversation.

Our latest feature Ciao Ciao (2025), distributed by Bounty Entertainment, held an eight-week theatrical run in Malta and screened internationally at AFI Fest, the European Union Film Festival, and the Mediterranean Film Festival.

Whatever (2022) reached global platforms through Under the Milky Way.

Recent work includes Serena (2024) and the forthcoming The Home Straight (2026), alongside a developing slate, Honour, Fame and Glory, Tradizjoni, and Missing Note, currently advancing through early financing.

A Studio With Dual Focus

Roughcut operates in two parallel movements:

We produce our own films, Service and Co-Produce.

As a Malta-based film production, we provide high-level line servicing for international films seeking to shoot on the island. We structure productions to access Malta’s 40% Cash Rebate and on the always look out for new collaborators for Co-Production

Cinema With Structure

Our foundation in editorial and post-production informs everything we do. We understand story from the inside out, from development to delivery. This perspective allows us to guide projects with both creative intuition and technical control.
